Your Guide to Jupiter in Gemini

The h(art) of New Beginnings, Part 1

I’m always making things, and I have this ongoing practice of compelling stuff that strikes me. Over the course of my life doing this, I’ve trained myself to do the opposite of what’s human nature, and that is to recoil from things I don’t like.
— Arthur Jafa

Hello artist,

Have you been feeling it? Your perspective(s) shifting about what community, connection, and accountability mean? Perhaps, you’ve been out in the world, feeling inspired or struck by creative inklings at every turn.

You aren’t the only one. If you’re a mutable dominant (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces) human like myself, you might be feeling this Jupiter in Gemini retrograde more acutely. Jupiter doesn’t care much to be in Gemini, and will drift here roughly until April 2025.

Jupiter, by nature, is the planet that loves nothing but expansion, and this transit will be asking us to grow. To explore. This planet loves the idea of ease and abundance, it desires to move without building a vision. Gemini is well versed in embracing the two sides to every coin, how curiosity allows us to challenge reality versus the ways we interpret it.

The (h)art of Duality

Honestly, the sign of Gemini gets a bad rap. It took me a long time to move past the one-dimensional beliefs associated with Gemini: two-faced, constantly plotting with a hidden agenda; gossipy and chatty; noncommittal and quick to change.

As a Gemini Rising, it wasn’t until Jupiter’s recent backtrack into Gemini that I’ve come to understand the duality that Gemini demands we embody.

Gemini is all about the mind, and how to view everything from every angle. Jupiter has a vision that is all heart. This transit is asking us to remember that we must be flexible in our creative practice, to let our art speak to and for us.

Whether you are a seasoned artist or turning to your work for the first time, this transit is showing you how to trust the inner vision of your work, to be adaptable when inspiration and community provide a new lens. As someone who believes that art is a spiritual practice, I’ve come to understand that art is not only everywhere, but must often be a reflection of both our inner and outer worlds.

Art, through the lens of this transit, is about how to find one another

Art as a Mirror

Recently, my partner introduced me to video artist and cinematographer Arthur Jafa, who finds inspiration for his films and video art in the everyday, raw experiences of Black life. Jafa often uses his work to dismantle singular beliefs about Black identity, and instead, uses his art to express his curiosity about what it means to black, to be human.

Jupiter in Gemini is looking for us to reevaluate how creative inspiration often contends with the shadow stories we hold, while dealing with the lighter parts of being human in order to not repeat the traumas of our people. It asks us to wonder how we artists can be both relentless in using our art to begin anew and capture the uncomfortable feelings that come with evolving.

For the next 12-13 months, we are supported in becoming more curious about the versions of ourselves and others, and seek opportunities to redesign how we connect and inspire one another.

As artists, activists, and people seeking a more liberated self and community, this is the time to think about the “me” in the “we.” Question everything, line by line, poem by poem, piece by piece.

Using Jupiter’s Retrograde Energy

This guide is meant to help you write through this transit and reflect on what limited visions we’ve had about our work, our communities, and ourselves.

Use this free birth chart tool to see which house this Jupiter in Gemini Retrograde will transit and highlight. Grab a pen and your favorite journal, and write your heart out using the prompts below.

Bonus: If you have personal planets in Gemini (ex: Mercury in Gemini in the 4H), this transit will be moving through your FOURTH house (and will be super amplified) — consider this a sign that things are evolving only for your betterment, and with that, the world.

If you have multiple placements in the Mutable signs of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, or Pisces, this transit will intensely reshape our lives, if we’re ready to do the work.
