Example

"aunt jemima" by Lucille Clifton

white folks say i remind them
of home i who have been homeless
all my life except for their
kitchen cabinets.
i who have made the best
of everything
pancakes batter for chicken

Prompt

Write a series of poems, or a poem with multiple parts, each from the perspective of a collection of objects.

  1. They should all be linked by some fundamental and defining thread.

  2. The connective tissue between these items could be that they are used together–like pots, microwaves, or anything kitchenware.

  3. Or, they could be objects linked by a specific function but not necessarily utilized in the same context.

  4. For example, a standard freezer, Antarctica, and a cryonics facility (where people pay to be frozen after death just in case future technology can cure and revive them.)
