Nature Poem

DAY 22 OF 30 | PROMPT BY ROBERT JAY

Basho was a sincere Buddhist monk who was very good at memorizing and reciting poems and sutras perfectly. One day his Zen master told him, “You're very good at reciting the poetry of others. Now at this very moment read me an original poem of your own!” Basho then heard a frog jump into an old pond and then created and read aloud his now famous short nature poem.

Go outside and using all your senses make up a short nature poem on the spot. Maybe say it out loud to no one in particular. Maybe meditate for 45 minutes. Maybe read a book from your favorite writer first...
